Kim Valdez is a sculptor and a founder and organising member of the Crouch End Open Studios for over ten years. She is now taking an organisational back seat and concentrating her energy on her own artistic work, whilst focusing her curating interests and skills on developing Front Room Art with her long-standing friend Judy Gilley.
Kim’s sculpture is varied in both materials and concept, ranging from Installation, commissioned outdoor works, to smaller ceramic or wooden works, usually of a semi-abstract nature.
Her most recent sculpture explores the use of Fluorescent Acrylic sheet and some can be seen on her website www.kimvaldez.co.uk
Kim also draws extensively and her iPad paintings arose from a time when, incapacitated by a broken wrist, she was temporarily unable to make sculpture and decide to follow David Hockney onto the Ipad.
Kim writes and tweets regularly about art under the pseudonym of ‘The Unknown Artist’ . She assumed this identity after making a full size acrylic sheet sculpture of Albert Turpin, an artist well known the 1930’s as an artist of the ‘East London Group’ whose work disappeared from history until resurrected by the recent book ’ From Bow to Biennale’.
